Naga villagers from Manipur still fleeing to Nagaland

There are reports of Naga villagers from Manipur still fleeing to Nagaland fearing their safety.

To instill confidence in them, the center has assured them that curfew will be lifted in Mao Gate and Manipur commandoes replaced by Central Para-military forces. But this seems to have not worked.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, Beiu Angami, about eighty minority Nagas from neighbouring villages of Manipur have joined the relief camp set up for displaced people at Kisama in Nagaland in the last 24 hours.

Kohima Superintendent of Police Z. Mero said that though the overall situation in the border area is relatively peaceful, an uneasy calm still prevails.

As reported earlier, hundreds of Naga villagers in Manipur have fled their villages and are taking shelter in Nagaland fearing backlash from Manipur police following the May 6th Mao Gate incident where two Naga students were killed in Manipur police action.
