Nadda urges public to restrict use of newspapers as food packaging material

Health Minister J P Nadda has urged public to restrict the use of newspapers as food packaging material. Expressing concern over the practice of wrapping, covering or processing foods with newspapers, Mr Nadda directed Food Safety and Standards Authority of India to issue an advisory restricting the use of newspapers as food packaging material.<br/><br/>He said, the newspapers are printed with ink and it contains many hazardous chemicals which can trigger serious health problems. The Minister also advised the state agencies and dissuades vendors from using newspapers in packing and serving food. <br/><br/>Mr Nadda further stated that there is a need to improve awareness among small businesses, particularly unorganized sector, and provide clear guidance.
