In a major upset last evening World Number one Rafael Nadal, bowed out to the 19 year old unseeded player Nick Kyrgios, from Australia in the Wimbledon Championship. Second seed Spainiard, Nadal was ousted by wildcard entrant Kyrgios ranked 144th in a hard fought victory that went to the fourth set for decision 7-6, 5-7, 7-6, 6-3 to reach the quarter-finals.Maria Sharapova suffered more Wimbledon heartache as the French Open champion crashed to a shock 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 defeat against Germany's Angelique Kerber in the fourth round, while Lucie Safarova stormed into her first Grand Slam semi-final yesterday. Kerber will face Canadian 13th seed Eugenie Bouchard today for a place in the semi-finals. Sharapova famously won Wimbledon aged 17 in 2004, but she has struggled to emulate that feat for much of the last decade. She has now failed to make it past the last 16 in seven of her last eight appearances at Wimbledon. Sharapova's exit means four of the top five seeds have been eliminated following the earlier departures of Serena Williams, Li Na, Agnieszka Radwanska, and there is only one former Grand Slam winner, Petra Kvitova, remaining in the women's draw. Meanwhile, Safarova cruised into her first Grand Slam semi-final as the Czech 23rd seed thrashed Russia's Ekaterina Makarova 6-3, 6-1.In Men's section, seven-time champion Roger Federer will take on close friend Stan Wawrinka in the Wimbledonquarter-finals. Federer eased into his 12th Wimbledon quarter-final with a 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 win over Tommy Robredo. Australian Open champion Wawrinka, the fifth seed, made his first last-eight date at the All England Club at the 10th attempt by seeing off Spain's Feliciano Lopez 7-6, 7-6, 6-3. Federer will start as overwhelming favourite having a 13-2 record over his 2008 Olympic Games gold medal partner.
