The meeting of the National Advisory Council (NAC), headed by UPA Chairperson, Mrs Sonia Gandhi which began this morning is now in progress. The two main agendas of the meeting are proposed National Food Security Bill and the Communal Violence Bill. AIR correspondent says NAC is expected to firm up its stand on the issues relating to the Food Security Bill. The NAC is expected to resolve two key questions, the number of people who will get rice and wheat for 3 rupees per kg and fixing the price of food grains for people living below the poverty line. At its last meeting, a presentation made by the Working Group on Food Security had said that while the time bound universalisation of food grains entitlement is desirable, it suggested initial universalisation in one-fourth of the most disadvantaged districts or blocks in the first year where the beneficiaries could receive 35 Kgs of food grains per month at three rupees a Kilogram. The working group was asked to prepare a draft bill based on the frame work suggested at the meeting.
