NAC meeting: Food security & rural development at centre of discussions

Food security and rural development remained at the centre of discussions at the first meeting of the National Advisory Council, NAC, in New Delhi today. <br/>The newly constituted 14 member council met under the leadership of its Chairperson, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi. Experts from diverse fields like MS Swaminathan, Aruna Roy, Ram Dayal Munda, Narendra Jadhav, Pramod Tandon, Deep Joshi and Anu Aga participated in the meeting.<br/><br/>Earlier, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had said that NAC will provide important inputs that will benefit civil society and people.<br/><br/>AIR correspondent adds that NAC had played an instrumental role in the enactment of the Right to Information Act and Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act during UPA government's first term.
