'Nabam Tuki resumes duty as Arunachal CM

In compliance with the Order of the Supreme Court regarding the restoration of status quo ante to 15th December 2015, Nabam Tuki resumed his duties as Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday at Arunachal Bhavan in New Delhi. A communication from his side regarding the same was sent to the acting Governor Tathagata Roy. He also spoke to the Chief Secretary and DGP regarding the future course of his Government. He will arrive at Itanagar today afternoon.<br/><br/>On the other hand reacting to the Supreme Court verdict ordering restoration of the previous Nabam Tuki-led Congress government, Kalikho Pul said that his government will remain and it will be decided on the floor of the Assembly. Pul also said that the state government will file a review petition against the Supreme Court judgement.<br/><br/>As of December 15 last the Congress had 47 MLAs in a House of 60, with the BJP having 11 and two Independents. Of the 47 Congress MLAs, 14 were disqualified by the Speaker.<br/><br/>Supreme Court yesterday restored the ousted Congress government in Arunachal Pradesh.

Nabam Tuki resumes duty as Arunachal CM

Backed by Supreme Court's order, former Arunachal Pradesh's Congress Chief Minister Nabam Tuki last evening resumed his duty as the Chief Minister of the state. He resumed the office from Arunachal Bhavan in New Delhi as he was in the national capital when the apex court issued its verdict. In a tweet Mr. Tuki said he will serve the people of the state with utmost sincerity in the coming days. He also informed, about resumption of his duties to acting Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Mr. Tathagata Roy.<br/><br/>Mr. Tuki will reach Itanagar today and will convene a meeting of his Council of Ministers. He will also convene a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party.<br/><br/>Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi said the Nabam Tuki led government will be restored in Arunachal Pradesh. He told AIR that the Apex Court decision in this regard will be implemented. Mr. Rohatgi said the state Governor will complete all the formalities to re-install the Tuki government.<br/><br/>The Supreme Court yesterday ordered the restoration of the Nabam Tuki government in Arunachal Pradesh. A five-judge constitution bench pronounced the verdict on a bunch of petitions dealing with discretionary powers of Governor Jyoti Prasad Rajkhowa to summon or advance the Assembly session. It termed the Governor's direction on conducting the Assembly proceedings as unconstitutional.
