In Andhra Pradesh, N Manohar of the ruling Congress has been elected as Assembly Speaker. He was elected in a division of voting held in the Legislative Assembly especially convened today with 158 votes in his favour. The Opposition Telugu Desam Party candidated KE Krishnamurthy got 90 votes. The Praja Rajyam Party and MIM supported the Congress candidate while the CPM extended support to the opposition candidate. The CPI and BJP have abstained from voting and the Telangana Rashtra Samiti boycotted the election
