N K Reddy to be sworn in as new CM of AP today

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister designate N Kiran Kumar Reddy will be sworn in today at a simple ceremony at Raj Bhavan in Hyderabad. Governor E S L Narasimhan will administer the oath of office after 12 in the noon. Kiran Kumar Reddy has been chosen by the Congress high command to succeed the Chief Minister K Rosaiah who stepped down yesterday after 14 and half months in office. It is likely that Mr Reddy alone will be sworn in today and the Council of Ministers will be formed after consultations with party high command. The 50-year old Kiran Kumar Reddy will be among the youngest to occupy the office in the state. Representing the Pileru Constituency of Chittor district in the Assembly, he will be the 16th Chief Minister of the state. Son of a former minister Amarnath reddy, he elected four times to the Assembly since 1989 and defeated only once in 1994. An accomplished wicketkeeper-batsman, he played for the Hyderabad team in the Ranji Trophy tournament. Coming from a political family background, Mr. Reddy was made the Speaker after the Congress returned to power in 2009 and never served as a minister. He studied in Hyderabad Public School (HPS), graduated from the Nizam's College and did his Bachelors in Law. After swearing in as the Chief Minister, he will resign from the post of Speaker.
