N K Reddy to be sworn in as new CM of AP

Andhra Pradesh new Chief Minister designate N Kiran Kumar Reddy will be sworn in this morning at Rajbhavan in Hyderabad. He will be sworn in as 16th Chief Minister of the state by Governor E S L Narasimhan this morning at 10 hours. Speaker of Assembly Kiran Kumar Reddy has been chosen by the Congress high command to succeed the Chief Minister K Rosaiah who stepped down yesterday after 14 and a half months in office. A team of senior Congress leaders comprising Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Defence Minister A.K. Antony, Law Minister Veerappa Moily and Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad came to Hyderabad by a special flight from Delhi as observers for a CLP meeting to choose Mr. Rosaiah's successor. The Congress Legislature Party unanimously adopted a one-line resolution requesting the Congress President Sonia Gandhi to select the new leaders. It passed another resolution expressing deep appreciation for the services rendered by Mr. Rosaiah as Chief Minister. Mr. Mukherjee later invited Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy for consultations after which an official announcement was made that Ms. Gandhi had chosen Mr. Reddy as the new CLP leader.
