Gombe Habba, a festival of dolls began in Mysore today. The festival, which is part of unique tradition of Mysore Dussehra, was started several centuries ago by the early rulers of Wadiyar Dynasty. Reflecting skills of womenfolk and gaiety associated with famous Dasara festivities, Gombe Habba is part of Navaratra during which dolls are arranged in almost all houses. The festival signifies nine incarnations of Goddess Durga and children anxiously wait for this. However, artistically arranged dolls with intricate works showcasing the skills of women are fast disappearing from the traditional homes.
