Myanmar's new Parliament to convene on January 31

Myanmar's new Parliament will convene for the first time on the 31st of this month. State media said the two-chamber Parliament will meet in the capital Naypyidaw, following the country's first election for 20 years.The first session will bring the country's first new constitution into effect and see representatives of the Upper and Lower Houses choose a new President, who go on to form a government.The election in November was widely criticised as flawed. The Party backed by the military rulers won 80 per cent of the seats. The State Peace and Development Council will officially hand over power on the 31st of January.
