A United Nations human rights official says Myanmar is putting a burden on neighboring countries as its refugees flee numerous human rights abuses. U.N. special representative for human rights in Myanmar, Tomas Ojea Quintana, spoke in Kuala Lampur on Thursday, completing an eight-day visit to Malaysia. Quintana said the human rights situation in Myanmar remains grave despite the military government's promises to make improvements. Quintana says countries in the region have a particular interest in persuading Myanmar to improve its human rights situation. He calls on the international community to ensure that Myanmar fulfills this responsibility.
