Myanmar earthquake of 6.7 magnitude leaves east India shaken, tremors felt in Bengal, Assam

A powerful earthquake measuring 6.7 on the Richter Scale and epicentred in Myanmar region at around 4 pm today shook several parts of east and northeast India.<br/><br/>According to National Centre for Seismology, a unit of<br/>Ministry of Earth Sciences, the epicenter of the quake was in Myanmar and it occurred at 4:04 PM at a depth of 58 kms.<br/><br/>Tremors were felt in Bihar, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and northeastern states in India, spreading panic among people.<br/><br/>The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said earthquake was also felt in Assam and other north eastern state. There is no report of damage in Assam particularly in Barak Valley region. North-East region of India are considered as the sixth major earthquake-prone belt in the world.
