MV Ganga Vilas river cruise tourists visit Asharikandi village of Assam; experience traditional way of making terracotta & pottery

The tourists of the world's longest river cruise today, February 18, visited the Asharikandi village of the Dhubri district of Assam to get first-hand experience of the traditional way of making terracotta and pottery. The 26 Swiss and 2 German tourists also visited the Gurudwara Tegbahadur Sahibji and Victoria Park in the Dhubri town. <br />''<br />''Sharing his views with this correspondent, Jogesh Chandra Paul, a progressive terracotta artisan said that about 200 families are engaged in terracotta and pottery making in Asharikandi village. He also informed that the government is promoting and facilitating their products through various fares and exhibitions.<br />'' <br />''Mr. Paul also appreciated the government for promoting the tourism sector and said this Ganga Vilas river cruiser will increase the avenues of their products globally. Asharikandi village which is 14 km away from Dhubri town is known as the largest terracotta and pottery cluster of India.<br />'' <br />''The world's longest river cruise MV Ganga Vilas re-entered India and anchored at Dhubri Port of Assam yesterday afternoon after passing through neighbouring Bangladesh with 28 foreign tourists. Last evening various cultural programmes were organised for the travelling tourists after their grand reception and immigration clearance.<br />''<br />''Today evening, the river cruiser will reach Jogighopa. Tomorrow, the tourists will visit the Sri Surya Pahar, a hilltop site in the Goalpara district famous for its terracotta and rock-cut sculpture depicting deities of Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism. It is an Archeological Survey of India's (ASI) protected site of National Importance.<br />'' <br />''MV Ganga Vilas is scheduled to travel 13 days in Assam and will also halt at Sualkuchi and Pandu in Guwahati, Kaziranga and Majuli before the culmination of the journey at Dibrugarh on 1st March. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi had virtually flagged off the cruise on 13th January 2023 from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh which has already traversed through Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and Bangladesh. <br />
