Muzaffarnagar: Army stages flag march; death toll climbs to 17

In Uttar Pradesh, the army is conducting flag march in violence hit areas of Muzaffarnagar town while the army along with paramilitary forces has been deployed in villages with large population and other towns of the district.

Indefinite curfew also continues in all the three police station areas of Muzaffarnagar town.Twenty five more companies of paramiltary forces have been requisitioned by the local authorities. The Delhi – Deharadun highway has been closed following violence in the surrounding areas of Muzaffarnagar district.

The death toll in the current violence has risen to 17 while more than 75 injured people have been admitted to hospitals. Police say that the death toll may go up as many people are reported missing. Our correspondent reports, intensive patrolling is on in the trouble hit areas all over the district.
