About 35,000 municipality employees across Chhhattisgarh are on strike since last night. They have been demanding salary as per the sixth pay commission recommendation. Meanwhile, the state government has imposed Essential Service Maintenance Act to put pressure on the striking employees while keeping the option open for talks with them. Alternate arrangements have been made so that essential water supply and other municipal services could be run without any interruption.
