In West Bengal, preparations for elections in 81 Municipalities including the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, have been completed. Voting will take place tomorrow. <br/><br/>State Election Commissioner Meera Pandey told AIR that all necessary steps have been taken to ensure free and fair voting. <br/><br/>Poll workers have already reached their destinations. Over 85 lakhs voters are eligible to cast their franchise. More than 10 thousands polling stations have been set up. About 7 thousands candidates are in the fray. <br/><br/>AIR Kolkata correspondent Arijit Chakraborty reports that the elections assume special significance before next year’s Assembly poll in the state. For the first time 68 company Central Para-Military force have been deployed to maintain law and order.<br/><br/>In Kolkata out of 141 wards 271 polling booths have been identified as sensitive. The State Election Commission has appointed 30 observers to oversee the poll. The counting of votes will be taken up on 2nd of June.
