Union Rural Development Minister Gopinath Munde will be cremated with full state honours at his native village in Maharashtra this afternoon.
The mortal remains of the leader are being flown to Latur and from there it will be taken to his hometown, Parli in Beed district of Marathwada, where the cremation will take place at around 2 PM.
Munde's body was brought to Mumbai last evening and was taken to his residence in Worli. Later, the body was taken to the BJP’s Mumbai office, where followers paid their last respects to the departed soul.
Aged 64, Gopinath Munde passed away in a road accident in capital New Delhi yesterday morning. He suffered a cardiac arrest following a road accident while on his way to the airport.
The President, Vice President, Prime Minister and several leaders of the BJP and other parties expressed grief over his death.
The Union Cabinet also expressed its deep sense of loss and grief. A special cabinet meeting convened last evening to mourn Munde's death passed a resolution to place on record its appreciation of his services to the nation in different capacities both at the state and national levels.
The resolution said, the country has lost a visionary leader who was held in high esteem across the political spectrum.
On behalf of the entire nation, the Cabinet extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
