Mumbaikars today got respite from heavy rains that created havoc since last three days. Rain has stopped in some parts of the city since morning while some parts are experiencing light intermittent showers. According to the Met department, from 8.30 am this morning till 11.30am, Colaba has recorded 0.2 mm of rainfall while Santacruz has received 3.8 mm of rainfall. There are no fresh reports of water logging across the city. Road and rail services are running normally. All six lakes that supply water to the city have either reached their brim or are overflowing. The meteorological department has forecast intermittent rains in parts of the city and suburbs, while heavy rains accompanied by strong gusty winds in some areas for the next 24 hours. Meanwhile, traffic on the Konkan Railway route has been severely affected after a protection wall collapsed on the tracks near Pomendi station in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra this morning leaving thousands of people who were going home for the Ganeshotsav festival stranded. All trains from Kerala, Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra and beyond to Gujarat and New Delhi have been held up at various points on the Koroute at Pomendi and the adjoining sections till the tracks are cleared. A spokesperson of Konkan Railway said that team of engineers has rushed there with the required equipment and work has started on a war-footing to restore services. Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) has said that services are likely to be restored by today evening.
