Despite a terror cloud looming over the city, millions of Mumbaikars are immersed in triple celebrations today with Ganeshotsav, Eid and Jain community’s Samvasari. They are engrossed in bustling up in the spirit of Ganesh Chaturthi. On the other hand people are also celebrating Eid with the same spirit. Eid-ul-Fitr preparations in the city had already begun long before the sliver of the new moon rose over the horizon last evening, marking the end of a month of fasting. The buzz at the Mohammad Ali Road came alive with people shopping for the festive. Meanwhile the city of Mumbai is swimming in the colours of devotion of Ganesh Chaturthi which is one of the most awaited festivals of the year. Idols of different sizes have been placed in a traditional manner not only in the homes of the people but also in every nook and corner of the city. Sounds of drums, lezhims could be heard from everywhere giving in a feel of the festival. The idols are being treated royally by offering modaks, sweets and the lord is being bathed in flowers. The jain people are celebrating the Samvasri with family members gathering together and enjoy the festival.In Tamil Nadu, Vinayaka Chathurthi is being celebrated across the state with religious fervour. Special poojas have been organised in Ganesh temples with people offering prayers to Lord Ganesha, believed to be the provider of knowledge and remover of obstacles. Large Ganesh idols tastefully decorated with garlands and colourful umberllas have been installed in many places throuought the state. The idols will be immersed in the water bodies after a week long celebration. The police have demarcated specific places for idol immersion. Police have made elaborate security arrangments in view of the festivities .
