Mumbaikars bids farewell to Ganapati with colors and dance

Mumbaikars today broke out into a riot of colors and dances with loud music amidst chants of 'Ganapati Bappa Moraya,' renting the air, as lakhs of devotees took to streets to bid adieu to their favourite deity amidst tight security. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and traffic police have made facilities for devotees with an elaborate traffic plan. AIR correspondent reports that.Lakhs of people from across the city took part in the Ganesh immersion procession today. The processions that were started in the morning are in full swing and are expected to go on even after mid night. Most of the major idols are already on their way to immersion. One of the largest ones, lalbaugh cha raja idol of Lord Ganesh, began its slow journey to Girgaum Chowpatty as number of devotees halt and take the blessing of Lord Ganesha. R.K.Studio’s Ganesh idol too was immersed with Priyanka Chopra and Ranbir Kapoor participating in thr procession. The who’s who of Mumbai were seen at various immerssion spots in the city. The small household idols too are being immesed at 19 artificial lakes set up by BMC. As the city bids farewell to its favourite god, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation is working closely with the traffic and police department to ensure peaceful processions of Lord Ganesha across the metropolis. The civic body has arranged for 6,000 volunteers, 500 lifeguards, 59 motorboats, over 60 first-aid stations and ambulances at all immersion sites. Traffic control rooms, search lights and watch towers have been put up at five main immersion spots. Several NGOs including United Way and Clean Mumbai Foundation among others joined BMC's efforts to keep beaches clean during the immersion
