History has repeated itself after 28 years when India has lifted the world cup crashing Sri Lanka by six wickets in Wankhede stadium in Mumbai yesterday. The atmosphere in Mumbai was joyous as people thronged into the streets shouting slogans in praise of India and the Indian team and hailing the Indian Captain Dhoni and master blaster Sachin Tendulkar. Almost in every part of the city, people came out of their homes to celebrate the moment of glory together. The historic Shivaji Park in South Mumbai witnessed jubilation at mid night by the locals. Indian fans were singing praises, dancing and burning crackers to celebrate the win of the Indian team. Similarly people thronged to the streets of Marine Drive, Colaba, Churchgate in South Mumbai. In the surban areas of Andheri, Goregaon, Vasai and Virar crowds gathered in large groups to celebrate the win of the Indian team. The historic win came due to the brilliant display of skill and temperament by the Indian skipper MS Dhoni when he played the captain’s knock by scoring 91 runs of just 79 balls and remained unbeaten till the last. He was also awarded the man of the match. However, Dhoni was supported by Gautam Gambhi who played an equally responsible innings by scoring a valuable 97 runs. The match was followed by an award ceremony where the most valuable player of the tournament was announced. All rounder Yuvraj Singh who has consistently performed well in the tournament and had been awarded four man of the match titles was awarded the coveted title of the most valuable player of the tournament. Meanwhile the BCCI has declared a cash prize of Rs. one crore for each player of the Indian team and 50 lakhs each for other support staffs. They would also be awarding the selectors Rs. 25 lakh each.
