Mumbai transporters observe strike since midnight

Transporters in Mumbai are observing a strike since midnight, along with truckers across Maharashtra and also from the states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry to protest non-compliance of their various long pending demands. The Bombay Goods Transport Association said their main demand is reduction of toll at checkpoints, bridges and highways. They are also demanding reduction in fuel charges, tyre prices, toll tax and insurance. The transporters are also seeking an improvement in the toll policy. AIR correspondent reports, the strike will affect manufacturing units in Mumbai and several industries depending on supply of raw materials by trucks, tempos and trailers.
