Mumbai, Thane once again experiencing Dahihandi jubilation after two years

<span style="color: #222222;">Mumbai and Thane are once again experiencingDahihandi jubilation this year, after the break of two years. The festival was not observed during last two years due to Covid-19 pandemic. As announced by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Dahi Handi will be recognized as an adventure sport from next year onwards. Maharashtra Government has also announced that financial assistance will be provided to Govinda's who suffer serious injuries during Dahihandi festival.</span> <br />''<br />''<span style="color: #222222;">The streets of Mumbai came alive again after two years with the slogans of 'Govinda Aala Re Aala' on the occasion of Janmashtami.<br />''<br />'' There are around 2000 small and big Govinda teams in Mumbai and Thane. These teams have started breaking Dahihandi's since midnight. More than one and a half lakh youths are participating in this festival in Mumbai. Prizes of crores of rupees are declared for the teams that build high layers of Dahihandi. Cash prizes are also being given to the Govinda teams who build five to six layers. In the wake of the upcoming elections, political parties are also trying to attract voters on this occasion. Meantime, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced that Dahi handi will be recognized as an adventure sport from next year onwards and a state-wide Pro-Govinda league will be organized to instill excitement and competition. He also said each govinda will be given an insurance cover of ten lakh rupees and they will also enjoy reservation in jobs just like kabaddi and kho-kho players. Chief Minister also declared that financial assistance will be provided to govindas who suffer serious injuries during Dahi Handi.</span><br />
