The Mumbai police have summoned Chennai Super Kings CEO Gurunath Meiyappan, the son-in-law of BCCI chief and CSK owner N Srinivasan for questioning in the IPL spot fixing case.
Joint Commissioner Crime Branch Himanshu Roy said Meiyappan has been asked to appear before the crime branch today.
However Meiyappan yesterday sought time till Monday to appear before the Mumbai crime branch . Police said that Meiyappan's request was faxed to the crime branch late last evening and it is under consideration.
In a related development, Ratnakar Shetty, Chief Administrative Officer of BCCI, and IPL CEO Sunder Raman last night visited the office of Mumbai Crime Branch. The two met Joint Commissioner of crime branch and assured him of full cooperation in the ongoing investigations.
Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar has said that at least three more players and one more IPL team is under the scanner for spot-fixing in the IPL tournament. Meanwhile, Enforcement Directorate has begun money laundering probe in the IPL spot-fixing case.
IPL Chairman Union Minister Rajeev Shukla has come out in support for a strong law to curb fixing.
