The Working Committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India or BCCI will meet in Chennai today to take stock of the situation arising out of IPL spot fixing scandal.
The BCCI is under increasing pressure to make strong and concrete decisions following the spot fixing scandal that plagued the sixth edition of the IPL.
The indications are that the Board will act tough with the three cricketers – S. Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan – presently in police custody.
BCCI President N. Srinivasan, IPL Commissioner Rajeev Shukla and the BCCI's anti-corruption head Ravi Sawani are among those who will attend the crucial meeting. The BCCI has already suspended the three Rajasthan Royals cricketers from the game, pending an enquiry.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Police has said that they may also book cricketer S Sreesanth in the IPL spot fixing case. The crime branch officials searched the two rooms in a five star hotel in Mumbai booked in the names of Sreesanth and Jiju Janardanan.
The police have recovered a laptop, an iPad, cellphone, some cash, data card, some cricket kits, personal belongings and some diaries of Sreesanth written both in English and Malayalam.
Delhi Police has despatched teams to Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Kolkata and Hyderabad to track the money trail in the spot-fixing case.
Unfazed by the scandal, IPL Commissioner Rajiv Shukla said that the tournament will continue. Talking to reporters in New Delhi, he said, the only way to cleanse cricket is to weed out corrupt elements from the game. Mr Shukla said, all cricketers should not suffer because of the misdeeds of some greedy individuals.
