The strike by the motormen of the Mumbai Suburban Railways today rocked the Lok Sabha , leading to adjournments and disruption of proceedings in the session. The House was first adjourned till noon following uproar over the issue. <br/><br/>The members wanted a statement by the government on the issue. The trouble started immediately after the obituary reference the Shiv Sena and other Opposition members carrying placards raised pitch over the issue and trooped into the well of the House leading to the adjournment of the House till noon. <br/><br/>When the House reassembled, the Speaker allowed members to speak on the issue during zero hour. Members cutting across party lines wanted the government to appeal to the striking employees to end their agitation and to hold talks with the unions involved to resolve the issue. <br/><br/>Anant Geete of the Shiv Sena said that suburban trains are a life line of the people and the strike has brought the life in Mumbai to a standstill. He said 65 lakh people are suffering because of the strike and he wanted the government to talk to the striking unions to end the strike. <br/><br/>Gopinath Munde of BJP want that the law and order situation could go out of hand if the steps end the strike were not taken urgently. Sanjay Nirupam of the Congress alleged that the Railway Ministry's assurance of setting up a committee and coming out with a report on the demands of the striking employees by 15th of this month has not materialised. He wanted the government to take immediate steps to resolve the issue to end the strike. <br/><br/>The Left members including Vasudev Acharya of the CPIM and Gurudas Dasgupta of the CPI wanted ESMA and retrenchment orders to be withdrawn. RJD leader Lalu Prasad also wanted the government to take immediate action. <br/><br/>The Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mr. Pawan Kumar Bansal said that the Railway Minister is not in the capital and a statement on the issue will be made at the earliest after getting in touch with her. <br/><br/>When things seem to settle down, a remark by Sudeep Bandopadhyaya of Trinamool Congress led to heated exchanges between the CPM and Trinamool Congress. As bedlam continued, the House was adjourned till 2 p.m.<br/><br/>Earlier, during the question hour the 2-G spectrum issue was raised by the AIADMK members. The SP and the RJD members wanted census to be conducted on the basis of caste.
