Mumbai local train services on Central Railway badly hit due to technical snag

In Maharashtra, suburban local train services on the central railway mainline have been affected due to pantograph snag in the morning hours today. The incident took place at the Thakurli railway station near Kalyan on the CST-bound slow track due to which several up and down slow trains and long distance mail or express trains came to a standstill since the morning from Thakurli to Diva stations.

As a result of the four-hour holdup, the irritated office goers at the Diva station, pelted stones on the railwaymen in which a railway motorman suffered minor injuries. The commuters also tried to stop the fast trains that also led to further disruption of trains. In order to control the crowd, railway police force resorted to a lathi charge. Meanwhile, the Central Railway PRO has informed that the pantograph has been repaired and soon, the local train services will resume.

Later, the railway motormen unions at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus station (CST) gathered to protest against the violent attacks by the commuters on them during local train snags. The protest has led to disruption of all the main line central railway services as well as affected the harbor line trains services.

Huge crowd of annoyed commuters could be seen near all central railway line stations with people waiting for recommencement of the train services. Many commuters also opted to walk on the railway tracks to reach the nearest stations.
