In Maharashtra, suburban train services in Mumbai continued to be disrupted on the second day today due to indefinite hunger strike by motormen .They are demanding hike in pay scales and allowances. The strike is continuing despite dismissing of 10 motormen of Central and Western railway each for refusing to report for work. Commuters will face problem today also as the Railway authorities said they will run only 30 percent of their services.<br/><br/>The commuters are using the western and eastern express highway to reach their destination which has resulted in heavy traffic on roads. Meanwhile, Mumbai University will allow students who report late to sit for their exams and compensate them for the time lost. Under the Shops and Establishments Act, Maharashtra Government will also allow employees to report an hour late for work and leave early owing to the motormen strike.<br/><br/>Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, on a visit to New Delhi, called on the Prime Minister and railway minister Mamata Banerjee for their immediate intervention to provide relief to Mumbai commuters.He said the state government is also reviewing if provisions of Essential Services Maintenance Act could be invoked in this case.<br/><br/>The first day of strike threw life out of gear for the city's 70 lakh train commuters, as more than 70 per cent of the suburban services were cancelled yesterday.
