Mumbai lift Ranji Trophy cricket title for 40th time

Mumbai have lifted the Ranji Trophy cricket title for the 40th time. On the third day of the five-day final in Mumbai on Monday, they beat Saurashtra by an innings and 125 runs. Resuming the day at the Wankhede Stadium, at their overnight 287 for six, Mumbai were all out for 355 in their first innings in reply to Saurashtra's score of 148. Trailing by 207 runs in the first innings, Saurashtra were shot out for just 82 in their second innings in less than four hours. For Mumbai, skipper Ajit Agarkar snapped up four wickets for 15 runs while his younger teammate Dhawal Kulkarni grabbed 5 wickets for 32 runs. Overall, Kulkarni finished with splendid match figures of nine for 56. Mumbai's 40th title comes in 44 appearances in the summit contest. They are regaining the crown after a gap of two seasons. Mumbai also earned the right to take on the Rest of India in the Irani Cup tie which is to be held at the same venue from February 6 to 10.The home team won 2 crore rupees as the prize money while Saurashtra got One crore rupees. The final scores: Saurashtra – 148 and 82 Mumbai – 355.
