Mumbai Indians have failed to qualify to the Champions League Twenty-20 tournament, an annual competition played between the top domestic teams from major cricketing nations. In the final qualifying match at Raipur last night, Mumbai lost to the New Zealand's Northern Knights by 6 wickets. Sent in to bat, Mumbai could only make 132 for 9 in the alloted 20 overs. Tim Southee and Scott Styris were the pick of the bowlers. They bagged three wickets each. Mumbai skipper Keiron Pollard top scored with 31. In reply, Northern Knights surpassed the target with 16 balls to spare courtesy 83-run opening wicket stand between Kane Williamson and Anton Devcich. Williamson made 53, while Devcich scored 39. This year's winners Kolkata Knight Riders, Kings Eleven Punjab and Chennai Super Kings will represent from the IPL in the group stage which begins today. Kolkata will take on Chennai in the opening Group-A match in Hyderabad at 8 this evening.
