Mumbai harbour likely to be ready for shipping by Sunday

Parliament was informed yesterday that Mumbai harbour affected by the recent oil spill, will be cleared for shipping by Sunday. In a suo motu statement, Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh told Lok Sabha that there is no oil spill off the Mumbai coast. He said, Indian Coast Guards have informed him that Mumbai harbour will be be cleared and normal transportation restored by Sunday. The Minister said that 32 ships will start moving by then. The ships were stranded there following collision between container vessel MSC Chitra and another vessel Khalija-111. The entire salvage operation will take 45 days.
