Maharashtra government has announced a compensation of 25 lakh rupees for the kin of five people who lost their lives in Mantralaya fire. Speaking to reporters in Mumbai today, Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan added that the government will also offer a job to a family member of deceased Mohan More, who worked in the Chief Minister’s office.
Mr. Chavan further informed that the state government has decided to conduct fire audits of all government buildings. He said that increasing efforts will be made to achieve paperless offices. Mr. Chavan informed that government will appoint a team of fire experts to assist crime branch in probing the cause of the devastating fire.
Talking about the damaged files, Mr. Chavan said that file reconstruction has already begun on a war footing. Reiterating that all files related to Adarsh were safe, Mr. Chavan added that the exact number of files damaged will be known from the Data Journey Management System, which tracks the movement of files in the secretariat.
Meanwhile, Mantralaya reopened today only for staffers and work resumed on first three floors of seven storey building. Earlier members of the state cabinet and Mantralaya staff paid tributes to the deceased.
