Mumbai 'encounter' expert, 5 others police custody till Jan 14

A metropolitan court in Mumbai today remanded senior Police Inspector Pradeep Sharma and five others to police custody till the 14th of this month. Mumbai's Special Investigating Team – SIT had arrested Pradeep Sharma along with two police officers, Tanaji Desai and Ratnakar Kamble and three informers, Akhil, Hitesh and Shailendra Pandey last night. <br/><br/>All six men have been charged with organizing the fake encounter of Ramnarayan Gupta alias Lakhan Bhaiyya, an alleged member of underworld don Chhota Rajan's gang, in 2006. The SIT, headed by Deputy Commissioner of Police V N Prasanna has been conducting an inquiry into this encounter on the basis of a petition filed by the deceased's brother Advocate Ram Prasad alleging that his brother was killed in a fake encounter. Mr. Pradeep Sharma is better known as an encounter specialist as he holds a record of 112 gangster encounters.
