Mumbai court issues rogatory letter to Chicago: Headly Case

The Esplanade court in Mumbai has issued a rogatory letter to the Chicago court in the US requesting permission to collect evidence in connection with 26/11 case.

The Chicago court has heard Lashkar-e-Taiba operatives David Headly, who was involved in conspiracy of the 26/11 attack.

A rogatory letter is a formal request from a court to a foreign court for judicial assistance, such as seeking evidence.

The Mumbai Crime Branch had requested the local court to issue a rogatory letter for collecting the evidence and the court signed the rogatory letter on Monday, which would be sent to Chicago court in the US, Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam told AIR.

The rogatory letter will be sent through Home Ministry and Ministry of External Affairs.
