Mumbai court extends custody of Abu Jundal to crime branch till Aug 13

A Metropolitan court in Mumbai today gave further custody of suspected LeT operative Abu Jundal to the crime branch of police till 13th August. Seeking Jundal's custody, the Mumbai Crime branch told court that it wanted to match the 26/11 handler's DNA sample with those collected from the Kuber boat in which 10 terrorists had arrived in Mumbai. Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam said that some samples obtained from the boat matched those of the deceased terrorists and now police wanted to ascertain if Jundal's DNA sample was also among those collected from the boat.

Nikam told the court the Crime Branch also wanted to trace the routes taken by Jundal to reach Pakistan after he fled India.

Jundal was arrested in the 26/11 case on 21 July by Mumbai police after he was brought here from Delhi where he was apprehended in another case. He is accused of participating in the 26/11 conspiracy allegedly hatched in Pakistan. Jundal is also accused of giving instructions to the 26/11 terrorists from a control room in Karachi during the attacks.
