A Mumbai based businessman, Kamal Morarka has acquired Mahatma Gandhi’s priceless memorabilia at an auction in the United Kingdom.
Kamal Morarka said in Mumbai today that he had acquired the memorabilia valuing more than One Lakh British Pound sterling which includes blades of grass and soil pigmented with blood of Mahatma Gandhi (retrieved from Birla House in Delhi), his early pair of iconic spectacles, the famous wooden ‘charkha’, a prayer book signed by him and several letters and documents pertaining to Gandhiji’s life.
Kamal Morarka clarified that the purchase was not a commercial decision and not meant for any resale.
The auction was meant to bring back these important heritage artifacts to India and share them with Indians. He said that he would be happy if the Indian Government could display the auctioned items in the national museum in Delhi.
