The Union Defence Minister A K Antony today said that that much awaited Medium Multirole Combat Aircraft deal will be decided by beginning of next financial year. Six companies from abroad have pitched for sale of 126 aircraft. The minister was speaking at a press conference organised as part of Aero India show which in Bangalore today. On fifth generation fighter aircraft, the minister noted all problems in this regard are resolved and co-development with Russia will progress without any hindrance. He clarified that there is no political interfearance or political decision with reference to procurement of military platforms and equipments. He made it clear that technical team from the armed forces decide on the requirement and suggest to the Government on required applications. But the minister emphasised that Defence Procurement policy and Offset policy formulated by the Government aims at encouraging indeginisation of Indian defence requirements. The minister further informed that Defence Acquisition Council has been set up to suggest whether any new sector can be included in the Offset policy. Headed by Director General of Defence Acquisition, the Council will submit its recommendation shortly. He also said that 40 ordinance factories in the country will be modernised in a phased manner. Expressing concern at America arming Pakistan with modern weapons, which in turn is using it against India, the Minister stressed that India’s concern has been conveyed to USA who he felt have understood our concern.
