The centre will form a coordination committee comprising various Union Ministries to tackle the problem of water-borne encephalitis prevalent in the Terai region of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said in Gorakhpur yesterday that since there is no effective vaccine for the disease, only preventive measures can check its spread.He said he would initiate formation of a coordination committee comprising Health, Water Resources, Social Justice and Woman and Child Welfare Ministries after discussion with the Prime Minister.The committee will make coordinated efforts to provide safe drinking water and would take steps for hygiene and sanitation in the affected areas.
