Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has urged the people of the state to refrain from violent protests on Mullaperiyar dam issue with Tamil Nadu.Addressing the media after an all party meeting on the issue in Thiruvananthapuram, he said that an unanimous resolution passed by the meeting, demands reduction of the present water level of the dam to 120 feet and construction of a new dam decommissioning the existing one.Mr. Chandy expressed the hope that the issue will be sorted out between the states amicably.The resolution also promises regular supply of water to Tamil Nadu.The meeting agreed to give any assurance to Tamil Nadu to remove the apprehension on sustained supply of water.The water level of the dam has come down to 135.9 feet. Meanwhile, the state Human Rights Commission has been stopped by the agitators in Idukki today, forcing the Commission to abandon the visit to the dam site.Tense but peaceful situation prevails in Kumily and Kambam Medu areas of Idukki district adjoining Tamil Nadu.A special session of Kerala Assembly will be convened on Friday to discuss the dam safety issue.
