Mullaperiyar dam issue affects normal life in Kerala

In Tamil Nadu, the Mullaperiyar dam issue has affected the people of Theni district bordering Kerala State the most. In the towns of Gudalur, Kambampatti around two thousand policemen have been deployed to provide security to the people.Mullaperiyar Dam issue is still burning in the district of Theni in Tamil Nadu as MDMK leader Vaiko underwent a day’s token fast on Thursday. In Gudalur vehicles are not plying and shops are closed. The livelihood of thousands of women workers who go across to work in cardamom estates in Kerala has been hit badly. Since traders from Kerala are not ready to come over to Bodi, the cardamom auction has been stopped since last Tuesday. Daily supply of more than eighty six thousand litres of milk to Kerala from Tamil Nadu has been stopped.The time tested mutual trust, love and harmony between the people of two southern States is in jeopardy. No wonder local people want a quick solution to this issue.
