Muharram processions begin today

Members of Muslim community perform Matam and Nauha on the first day of two month long Moharram. <br/><br/>The month of Moharram is being observed to comomorate the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain grandson of Prophet Mohammad who along with his followers were slained at Karbala. <br/><br/>Majlis are also being organised at several places from today to mourn the martyrdom. In several areas Alam processions are also being carried out in the respect of martyrdom. <br/><br/>Most of the areas it will be carried out from sixth day of Moharram. People of the community wear black and plain clothes during the whole period of Moharram. <br/><br/>In Uttar Pradesh, elaborate security arrangements have been made across the state to ensure peaceful observation of Moharram. In all sensitive districts including Lucknow, Allahabad, Varanasi, Azamgarh, Mau, Kanpur, Aligarh, Moradabad and Badaun central para military forces along with PAC of state police have been deployed. Nearly 32 companies of PAC and 12 companies of RAF have been provided to different districts for massive security arrangements by the state government. <br/><br/>The government has directed civil and police officials for taking all essential precautionary steps to ensure law and order and peace during the Moharram.<br/>
