Mudslides in China kills 15

In China, at least 15 people have been killed in mudslides that ploughed into an area in the southwestern Sichuan province. The official Xinhua news agency today reported that rescuers pulled out the 15 bodies from several landslides that hit Wenchuan county since Saturday.A total of 31 people had been reported missing in the mudslides. Wenchuan is only just recovering from the devastating earthquake that hit Sichuan in May 2008, leaving nearly 87,000 dead or missing. The landslides hit the area one week after the town of Zhouqu in neighbouring Gansu province was virtually split in two by a torrent of mud and rocks that killed 1,254 people and left nearly 500 others missing.
