In Egypt, the state television says President Hosni Mubarak is to have an operation on his gall bladder today in Germany where he is on a visit. Reports say he has temporarily handed over power to the Prime Minister Ahmad Nazif . There are regular rumours about the health of President Mubarak who is 81 and has led Egypt for almost 30 years. He has never named a successor.
