Mount Mary Fair, a week-long annual festival has begun at the historically famous Mount Mary chapel situated in suburban Bandra of Mumbai. As the day was rain-free and people had long week-end due to Eid-ul-Fitr and Ganesh Chaturthi, there was festive mood all around. Large number of devotees and pilgrims made a bee-line to the shrine. Every September, the feast of Mount Mary is celebrated on the Sunday following 8th September, the birthday of Mother Mary. The Basilica of Our Lady of the Mount stands on a hillock about 80 metres above sea level, overlooking the vast expanse of the Arabian Sea towards the west and the city of Mumbai and its suburbs in other three directions. Mumbaikars regardless of caste, creed, and religion offer prayers during the week-long celebrations. There is a common belief that Mother Mary fulfils the wishes of every devotee visiting the shrine. The week-long fair will end on the 19th of this month.
