Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, IIEST, Shibpur will honour veteran filmmaker, Mrinal Sen with an honorary doctorate, D. Litt. Conferred with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2005, Mr. Sen is regarded as one of the pioneer of the Indian alternative cinema movement. He will turn 94 in May this year. He has won four National Film Awards as the best director for films including 'Khandhar' and 'Bhuvan Shom'.<br/><br/>IIEST registrar, Dr Biman Bandyopadhyay informed that the Institute each year awards honourary doctorate to eminent personalities from the fields of arts, culture, sports, etc. This year, IIEST has decided to give this honour to Mrinal Sen and classical vocalist Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty at the Institute's second convocation ceremony to be held at IIEST Howrah campus near Kolkata on Friday.
