The Winter Session of the Maharashtra Assembly begins in Nagpur today. The session is likely to witness noisy scenes over the plight of farmers especially the problems being faced by cotton, soya and paddy growers. The other issues likely to dominate the session include law and order situation, naxal menace, load-shedding and increased power tariff.The winter session of West Bengal Assembly also begins today in Kolkata. Five bills including Health Services Amendment Bill and Land Acquisition Amendment Bill are likely to be introduced in the House during the session. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa has called a special session of the State Assembly on Thursday to discuss the Mullaperiyar Dam issue. In a statement released in Chennai yesterday, Ms. Jayalalithaa said that the session will be a show of solidarity of all political parties on the issue.
