Maharashtra Legislative Assembly today witnessed noisy scenes over the alleged CIDCO land scam with the government refusing to accept the opposition demand for a CID probe. Leader of Opposition Eknath Khadse charged that the scam was worth Rs 50,000 crore and accused the government of shielding the guilty. Chief Minister Ashok Chavan told the house that the Shankaran committee set up to probe the alleged scam has said that losses suffered by CIDCO – City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra – were to the tune of Rs 347 crore due to irregularities in land allotment. Chavan rejected the opposition demand for a CID inquiry and said accountability would be fixed and action taken after consultations with the law and judiciary department. The government today also announced an inquiry in to the super specialty Seven Hills hospital after member from ruling and opposition benches alleged irregularities in the project. The hospital was inaugurated by President Pratibha Patil earlier this month in Mumbai.Minister of State for Urban Development Bhaskar Jadhav announced while replying to a calling attention notice in the Legislative Assembly today that Urban Development secretary will conduct a probe on the issue. Shiv Sena’s MLA Ravindra Waikar’s alleged that the hospital did not employ 80 percent sons of soil as per the norms; Jadhav ensured that the hospital already gave the jobs to local by appointing around 3000 nurses.
