In Bangladesh, the main Opposition party the Bangladesh Nationalist party led by Khaleda Zia today said that the party MP’s will join the sixth session of parliament or Jatiya Sangsad which begins on Monday if its demands are met.Briefing reporters in Dhaka today, the party’s chief whip Zainul Abedin Farooque said his party colleagues will participate in the proceedings if the Speaker and the government address the party’s demands and create a suitable environment. He once again reiterated his party’s demands which include issues like seat allotments in the front row of the House, discussion in parliament on major national issues like BDR headquarters carnage, Tipaimukh Dam, price-hike of essentials and electricity, gas and water crisis. In addition to this the BNP is also demanding withdrawal of the order cancelling the parole of BNP leader Khaleda Zia’s son Arafat Rahman Koko and withdrawal of the cases filed against BNP leaders and workers including BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and her family members. He lamented that the speaker and the government have still not invited the BNP to discuss those demands though the Speaker had assured to resolve those demands through discussion. The BNP MP’s have been boycotting the parliament proceedings despite repeated calls by the Speaker Abdul Hamid and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urging the opposition to join the parliament proceedings.
