The move by the BJP and some other parties to impeach Karnataka High Court Chief Justice P D Dinakaran gathered momentum with about 50 Rajya Sabha MPs supporting the action. Rajya Sabha members from BJP, Left parties and Samajwadi Party among others, have reportedly signed for moving of an impeachment motion against Dinakaran, whose elevation as a judge of the Supreme Court has been stalled due to allegations of land grabbing against him. As per Rajya Sabha rules, if 50 members sign on a demand for a motion, it becomes the property of the House and action has to be taken. Congress members have reportedly refrained from signing on the document. The Government has already sent back Dinakaran's file to the Supreme Court Collegium to reconsider its decision to elevate him.
